Two NBA legends are slated to make an appearance in South Mississippi this week.

Coach Pat Riley and All-Star center Shaquille O’Neal will lead the Miami Heat in an NBA preseason game against the New Orleans Hornets on Friday night at 7:30 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Ticket sales have gone well, according to the Coliseum ticket office.

Hardaway showed quickness and movement not normally associated with a 36-year-old attempting a comeback. He was victorious in a playful practice competition with Wade, who said he is embracing Hardaway because he is a fellow ‘gym rat.’ Read more

Riley still plotting; lineup is a mystery

“We don’t have it. So you’ve just got to go with what you have and try to do as much as you can.”

The question was simple. The answer was a bit more complex than you’d want less than three weeks from opening night.

Heat coach Pat Riley was asked over the weekend if he had a solution for his lineup questions at small forward and shooting guard.

‘I’m not even thinking about that. I’m thinking about getting the team right,’ he said. ‘And on opening night, I’ll throw some names in there. Hopefully guys will have played better and gained some confidence.

‘Without a doubt, the league requires you to have five guys on the court, so that night we’ll put somebody out there.’ Read more
